The French minister of Territorial Unity, Caroline Cayeux, has announced her resignation to President Emmanuel Macron. The reason for her resignation is a conflict between Cayeux and the transparency supervisor in France, HATVP, about Cayeux declaration of assets.

"Following my declaration of assets, the High Authority for the Transparency of Public Life told me that it considered it undervalued," she said, according to La Provence. Cayeux is succeeded by Dominique Faure, the previous Secretary of State for Rural Affairs.

Adoption by gay couples

Cayeux had been the centre of controversy because of some of her statements which were considered homophobic, Le Figaro writes. In 2013, she called same-sex marriage and adoption of children by same-sex couples a "reform of whim and design that goes against nature."

Last July, a few months after the French elections, Cayeux said that she still believed firmly in her statement. However, she added that if the law required her to accept same-sex marriages and adoption by gay couples, she would also abide by that. Furthermore, Cayeux said that she had many friends "among these people". This statement led to new upheaval but did not lead to her resignation.
