Pope wants to appoint women in leadership positions

Pope Francis promises to appoint two women for the vacancies in the commission that selects bishops. He said so during an interview with Reuters. It is the first time that women will get a say in the selection of bishops.
In the interview, Pope Francis did not mention any names, nor did he say anything about the date of the appointment, Catholic News Agency writes. He added that he wanted to change the closed culture of the Vatican system a bit and is open to giving women a chance.
Recently, the Pope already implemented another reform of the Curia, the Vatican government body. Because of that change, lay people – both men and women – can now apply for leadership positions at the Vatican.
Pope Francis also said that women could head the Catholic Education and Culture Authority and the Apostolic Library. Currently, they are run by male clerics.
Last year, the position of Vice President of the Vatican State Administration was filled by a woman for the first time. Also, the Secretary of the Development Authority and the Undersecretary for Multilateral Relations in the State Secretariat are female.
