Survey: majority of German young people thinks married life is desirable

Being married and having children is the ideal life. That’s the picture that younger people in Germany have, according to a representative survey.
In a survey by the Opaschowski Institute for Future Issues (OIZ), 57 per cent of 18- to 34-year-olds supports the statement: “Marriage with a marriage certificate and children will be the most desirable way of life in the future." This writes the German editor network RDN.
In a similar survey last year, 56 per cent of those questioned had this view. With a 62 per cent majority, the classic family model is much more popular under young women than under young men, of whom only 52 per cent supported the statement.
Live like their parents
“The young generation is now longing for stability, security and social security on the way to post-pandemic times," said the Hamburg futurologist Horst Opaschowski (80). Marriage has not lost its esteem and its role model. "Most young people hold on to their wish for the future: Live like their parents do today!"
In the older generation, value-conservative attitudes have always dominated, Opaschowski continued. According to the latest survey, almost three quarters (72 per cent) of the over 65-year-olds stuck to the classic marriage model. The approval rate was 63 per cent across all age groups.
