Swiss Evangelicals start anti-abuse network

About sixty professional and church groups have united powers to combat abuse. They implement guidelines for staff, organise prevention programs and set up crisis intervention teams.
The initiators behind the initiative that is set up under the umbrella of the Swiss Evangelical Alliance say that there is a need for an “exchange of competences and prevention work because behaviour that violates boundaries does not stop at church walls.” They see it as their calling to act as communities committed to Christian values. That is reported by Evangelical Focus.
Among the associations that joined are Christian welfare organisations, youth associations and churches. Together they think about organising pastoral care, for example, or preventing abuse at summer camps for young people.
Zero-tolerance
The associations met for the first time in Lausanne and Oberärgeri on December 6. They are split up into German-speaking members and French-speaking members. During the gatherings, the associations signed a charter in which they promised to commit to a zero-tolerance policy for power abuse and concepts for prevention and crisis intervention, among other things.
