The new German coalition wants to continue the office of commissioner for religious freedom.

After the general election it was questionable whether it would be re-occupied. However, as the Federal Development Ministry announced on Wednesday in Berlin, Minister Svenja Schulze (SPD) will "shortly make a proposal for the appointment" of the office, which is located in her ministry.

CDU politician Markus Grübel is currently the Commissioner for Religious Freedom, but it was unclear whether there would be a successor. The Christian Democratic parliamentary group had therefore submitted an application to the Bundestag for Thursday demanding that the office continue.

According to the Development Ministry, Schulze also wants to "seek personal exchange with representatives of all religious communities in order to discuss the role of religions in development cooperation" at the beginning of next year. She will get involved in her new office for worldwide religious freedom. This writes the Christian web portal Evangelisch.de.

According to Christian magazine PRO, Schulze will work closely with Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) and the new human rights officer, to commit to worldwide religious freedom.

Markus Grübel, the current representative, prepared a report for the federal government on religious freedom every two years, which includes all religions and denominations.
