Latvia tops EU list of homicides

Latvia remains at the top of the list of with the highest number of homicides. Remarkable is the number of women who are killed.

That is reported by Eng.lsm. In 2020, the Latvian police received 0.90 notices of homicides per 100,000 European citizens on average. In Latvia, this number amounts to 4.9. The country is followed by Lithuania with 3.5 and Estonia with 2.8. In 2020, 93 people were killed in Latvia.

Remarkable is that the share of women in the homicide victims is also the largest in Latvia. In the country, 60 per cent of the victims are female, while the average in the European Union is 37 per cent.
