For some time, Bjarte Ystebø had been the expected successor of Finn Jarle Sæle, the editor-in-chief of the Norwegian Christian weekly Norge Idag. Ystebø was the assistant editor-in-chief of the weekly. However, after an internal conflict with Sæle, he decided to leave the company on Monday.

According to Ystebø, the internal conflict is the direct reason for his decision. He says so in a statement on the website of Norge Idag. His resignation came into effect immediately on Monday. Ystebø had worked for Norge Idag for about 23 years.

The assistant editor-in-chief had come into conflict with his superior over succession conditions. Even though Sæle had promised to step down soon because of his age, he did not seem to want to hand over all responsibilities of editor-in-chief to his successor. In fact, if Ystebø had accepted the job offer, he would have had three bosses above him, as CNE.news reported earlier.

An open letter to the shareholders of the Norwegian weekly showed that most of the employees of Norge Idag supported Ystebø. Ystebø tells Dagen that he does not rule out that more people will resign from the Norwegian weekly.

In reaction to the resignation of his assistant, Finn Jarle Sæle says to be happy that a "decent solution to the conflict" has been found. "We are parting as friends. We have reached an agreement that we are satisfied with."

Ystebø's resignation leads to the end of the TV program LIVE from Bergen. Also, Ystebø's fellow presenter, Linn Myhr, steps down. Ystebø explains that the program belongs to Norge Idag and that he will no longer present it as he does not work for the company anymore.

The television program was broadcast every Tuesday evening and aimed at recruiting new subscribers.

Trine Overå Hansen, the associate editor-in-chief of Norge Idag, says to Dagen that the future of the TV program is uncertain yet. "There will be a TV program from Norge Idag, but whether it will be called the same and who will be the presenter has not yet been decided."
