During the first half of 2022, fewer anti-Semitic incidents were reported to the Austrian authorities than during the same period the year before.

In total, the Anti-Semitism Reporting Office registered 831 incidents in the first half of the year. Last year, that number amounted to 526. That means a decrease of 32 per cent this year, Religion.orf writes.

Most incidents were reported in January when the Reporting Office received 91 complaints of violent behaviour, property damage, threats and assaults. After that, the average number dropped to 50 to 60 incidents per month.

According to Religion.orf, 66 of the 381 reported incidents were related to the Covid Pandemic, 96 to the relativism of the Holocaust and 123 as a result from Israel-related issues.

All reported incidents were ideologically motivated. More than half of the attacks (201) came from supporters of the political right, 81 attackers supported the political left and 34 were Muslim.
