Since Saturday, the Christian Party (PKD) in Norway is called Conservative Party. That was decided at a national party meeting.

Delegates at the meeting could choose between the alternatives “Blue” or “Conservative”, or they could vote to keep the party name the same, Dagen writes. “Conservative” turned out to be a clear winner.

When asked to choose between “Conservative” and “Christian, 34 attendees voted for Conservative Party, 11 for Christian and 1 voted blankly.

The name change should show Norwegians that the PKD does not stand for principles of personal faith but that the party is working on a “conservative renaissance”, party leader Thomas Moltu says. He had advocated the name change for a while already. The party leader believes that the agenda of the party appeals to many more Norwegians than Christians alone. “Our policy remains the same, but we are sure we will now have a larger catchment area. At the same time, we will continue to fight for Christian matters”, Moltu says.
