Bedtime for Reinout. Before going upstairs, I give him a clean diaper. That may sound like a routine job, but it can be quite challenging to change a nappy. While holding Reinout in a vice grip, I shout: "Jan! I need the nappy wipes. And can you bring the pot of Sudocrem as well? And Reinout, please stay down for a while!"

Mother's column – Expecting a baby is a shared experience

Mother's column – where is Reinout?

Reinout is gone. Actually, he is often out and about, but we usually find him again quickly. Most of the time we find him riding his balance bike on a self-made track across the car park. Or he has gone to the nearby playground. Or he is quietly playing with his Lego in the attic.

Mother's column – Passing on the Christian heritage

The baptism form that we use in the Netherlands is a valuable heritage from the past. It is incredible how many Reformed churches in our country, from liberal to conservative, still read that during baptismal services. Just imagine having to write something that suits all churches today. That would be impossible.
