Danish government under criticism for abolishing National Prayer Day

The Great Day of Prayer was a nationally celebrated event in Denmark in the past. The law even required every citizen to go to church. Today, these traditions have been watered down. However, church leaders argue that it is time to revive the Great Day of Prayer.

The National Day of Prayer for Ukraine will take place on June 11 and 12. This year, it is not held centrally in Ukraine but only in local churches. The reason is the war violence in the country.

The new Danish prime minister, Mette Frederiksen from the Social Democratic Party, announced the abolition of a public holiday. Several media suspect that it will be Prayer Day. The new government wants to increase the structural employment of 45,000 people.
