Pope Francis disagrees with the liberal course of the German Synodal Way. He would have said so during an audience with Archbishop Gądecki, the President of the Polish Bishops’ conference.

During the audience, Archbishop Gądecki shared his concerns about the liberal decisions the German Synodal Way took recently. The Catholic body voted in favour of marriage for priests, ecclesiastical blessings for homosexual couples and opening up offices to women.

The Polish Bishops’ conference announced in a statement that Pope Francis distances himself from the German initiatives. This is confirmed by Swiss Cardinal Kurt Koch, the “Ecumenism minister” of the Vatican, as CNA Deutsch reports.

Pope Francis even sees the course of the German Catholic Church as” Protestantisation”, the Polish version of Vatican News writes.

However, the central theme of the meeting was the Ukrainian refugee crisis. Pope Francis expressed his support for initiatives to help fleeing Ukrainians during the audience. He assured them of his spiritual support, CNA writes.
