German Christmas stamp proclaims the Gospel
Central Europe
Germany has a special Christmas stamp with a Bible text this year.
The stamp reads “I bring you good tidings of great joy”, after the Bible text from Luke 2, and shows an image of the painting “Annunciation to the shepherds” from the Italian artist Ansano di Pietro di Mencio (1406-1481).
The revenue of the special stamp goes to charity projects, such as Caritas, Diakonie and an organisation that supports Jews in Germany. The concept has existed since 1969 already, the Dutch daily Reformatorisch Dagblad writes.
Earlier stamp projects resulted in more than 650 million euros.
