The Delegate of the French Equality Minister gets millions of euros to fight LGBT discrimination.
Last Monday, Delegate Isabelle Lonvis-Rome presented the government's plan to fight LGBT discrimination. For that project, the coalition has reserved 10 million euros. The goal of the plan is to carry out a "deep change of mentalities" in French society, Le Figaro writes.
With the money, the government wants to provide special training to law enforcement officers, teachers, volunteers, association employees, summer camp supervisors, students and health professionals, Lonvis-Rome said. They should be taught how to "better deal with acts of anti-LGBT hatred", she explained.
In addition, the government will create support centres to make more information available on LGBT issues. These places are often the first ones that are asked questions by young people, the Minister clarified. Therefore, she wants to strengthen the associations so that "they can hire permanent employees" and so that ten new centres can be opened by 2027.
Also, the coalition wants to adjust school administrations so that same-sex parents can both be registered as legal representatives of their children. The plan needs to be carried out between 2023 and 2026, Valeurs Actuelles writes.
