A large majority of the German population wants to be reconciled with their loved ones at the end of their lives.

About 82 per cent of the Germans find it essential to reconcile with the people close to them at the end of their lives. That was shown by a survey on behalf of Die Tagespost.

Only 6 per cent disagreed with the statement, “At the end of my life, I would like to be reconciled with the people close to me.” Nine per cent did not know an answer, and three per cent refused to give information.

The percentage of people agreeing with the statement is similar in all age groups. Between 30 to 39 years old and people older than 70 years, their share is between 82 and 85 per cent, Die Tagespost writes. Only among 18 to 29-year-olds is the share of people agreeing to the statement a bit lower, 75 per cent.

Among Catholics, 85 per cent wants to be reconciled with their loved ones before they pass away. Of the Protestants, 86 per cent agreed with the statement. Of free churches, only 77 per cent want to be reconciled with people they were close to, while 13 per cent disagreed with the statement.

The survey was conducted among 2,007 adults at the beginning of November.
