What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the field of computer science focused on creating machines that can perform tasks normally requiring human intelligence. This includes understanding language, recognizing images, solving problems, and making decisions.

What does AI mean for Christians?

More than ever, churches are becoming increasingly reliant on AI for live-streaming, especially when it comes to translating sermons for worldwide use.

In some European churches, AI has been trialled for giving spiritual guidance such as the "AI Jesus" hologram in St. Peter's Chapel in Switzerland. In Germany, a ChatGPT-generated "AI pastor" led a church service, although its congregants said that it "lacked warmth and depth."

AI has also been widely used for Bible translation. By 2033, the AI tool, GreekRoom has the possibility to translate the BIble into at least 7,100 languages. Some futurists suggest that AI might have the capability to write a new Bible, which raises serious questions about divine inspiration and authorship.

What are the ethics around AI?

As AI evolves, some Christians believe that this emergent technology comes with many questions in the field of machine ethics and has the possibility to exhibit mind control. On the other side, some think that AI can deliver many useful benefits to the Christian community such as Biblical translation.
