Italy has its first case of legal euthanasia. The western region of Tuscany decided on a law for assisted suicide in February this year despite the conservative views of the national government. The Constitution Court has given its approval in 2019 already.

Many are confronted with euthanasia when a loved one wants to "pull the plug", or their family must accept a death wish. Euthanasia and assisted suicide are currently popular topics within European countries right now.

Supporters of euthanasia can push the European Union to harmonise legislation among the member states on this issue. By doing that, euthanasia can become an EU policy.
