The Advertisement Code Commission responsible for the content of Dutch ads has rejected three complaints. The complaints were submitted against two advertisements for the pro-life organisation NPV-Zorg voor Leven.

That is reported by the Dutch daily Reformatorisch Dagblad. The video clips in question show two women who tell that they cancelled their abortion last-minute. They say to be grateful and happy that they kept their child.

Very biased

One of the complainers says that the videos give the impression that abortion is the worst choice one can make. That would be a “very biased advertisement for such a complex topic”. A family doctor, who also showed his disapproval, says that the clips suggest that it is nice to have a child. He argues that this is contrary to reality and that the ad is misleading. The third person who complained about the advertisements says that the NPV should have added a disclaimer to the clips so that people see that they come from political parties.

The commission for advertisements now rejects the complaints, it writes in a letter to the NPV. It argues that it is clear enough that the message of the video reflects the opinion of the advertiser. In addition, the videos are not hurtful and do not violate the rights of others, according to the commission.
