Church can receive subsidy for LED lights in Norway

Norwegian church owners can apply for financial support to replace old light bulbs with LED lighting, which is less energy-consuming. The Church Council in Norway decided that this form of climate compensation should be available.
In total, half a million kroner (about 47,000 euros) are available from a specific climate compensation fund of the Church Council. That is reported by Christian press agency KPK. The fund was established last year to be used to financially support emission-reducing measures and actions that lowered energy consumption in the illumination of church buildings.
According to statistics, medium-sized churches can save about 2,500 kWh a year and reduce emissions by nearly a tonne annually.
Estimations show that it costs about 40 to 50,000 NOK to replace all the light bulbs of a medium-sized church. Only a limited number of churches will benefit from the regulation this round.
In addition to spending the subsidy on LED lighting, churches can also use it to pay CO2 compensation for the air travel of church employees. The application deadline for the subsidy is December 10.
