A text of the French association of traditional Catholics, Renaissance Catholique, is not discriminating against people's sexual orientation. The Paris correctional court decided that in the appeal case on the matter.

Judges ruled that the text of Renaissance Catholique was protected by the right to freedom of expression, as reported by European Conservative. Three LGBT activist associations had filed a complaint because they thought the text "provoked discrimination against a group of people because of their sexual orientation."

Renaissance Catholique published the article on its website in June 2019 on its website. It was entitled "The Church of the Living God: the Pillar and Support of Truth." The article read that civil authorities should not establish civil or legal unions between two people of the same sex who want to imitate the marriage union. According to the article's authors, such "unions would encourage grave sin for the persons concerned and cause grave scandal for others."

The article was not an official publication of the Roman Catholic Church itself. Still, it was signed by two cardinals, Burke and Pujats, and bishops Peta, Lenga and Schneider. That is reported by Riposte.

Freedom

The judges of the Paris correctional court ruled that the "remarks only express the opinion of the Catholic Church on the question of civil unions between persons of the same sex." Furthermore, they said these remarks "are protected by the freedom of expression and opinion, as long as they do not contain the exhortation to commit positive acts of discrimination."

The freedom of the Church to teach its traditional view on sexuality and marriage is thus, for the time being, preserved, at least on these subjects, Renaissance Catholique writes on its website. The association calls the ruling a great victory for the Church and a failure of the LGBT lobby.
