Kherson church destroyed after Russian shelling
Eastern Europe
A Protestant church in Kherson was destroyed by shelling. There are no casualties.
According to the news website Kherson online, the Russians shelled the Ukrainian city 83 times on Tuesday. The city centre was hit 26 times. Aside from the church, the management of the communal enterprise, an educational institution, a railway facility, a regional puppet theatre and a printing house came under Russian fire.
Last month, Orthodox believers of the Vinnytsia diocese (Moscow Patriarchate) delivered over 15 tonnes of humanitarian aid to the war-torn city. There is especially a need for food and water in the city. “We understand the difficult conditions in which our fellow citizens in the Kherson region found themselves, so we call on all those who are not indifferent to support people in the de-occupied territories as much as possible”, a statement on the diocese’s website reads.
In early November, the Russian invaders retreated from the city after a fierce battle with the Ukrainian military.
