Helge Vatne will be the face of Christian schools in Norway
Northern Europe
In August, Helge Vatne will take over as acting general secretary of the Christian Free Schools organisation (KFF). The present secretary Jorunn Hallaråker Heggelund is on parental leave.
This is reported by the Christian Press Office (KPK) in Norway.
Helge Vatne has been affiliated with the KFF for a long time already. The board says on the website that they are happy that Vatne is now taking on the leadership role. This summer, there will be new personnel at the KFF’s office as well. Altogether, the team consists of four people.
Helge Vatne was trained as a teacher. He has worked in a public primary and secondary school. He was principal at The Norwegian School in Cameroon from 1986 to 1994. From 1999-2008, he worked as an adviser at KFF. After that, he was the principal at Østerbo upper secondary school.
Umbrella
The KFF is the umbrella organisation of 151 connected Christian schools of all sorts. Most of these (84) are elementary (primary) schools. The second group (38) consists of high schools.
Norway is one of the countries where private Christian schools are legal and receive some money from the government. Still, the position of Christian education is vulnerable. Especially under the present government in Oslo, there is a new debate around Christian schools.
