Finnish Christian Democrats welcomed in new government coalition

The Christian Democrats are back on stage in Finland. They are part of the government coalition, together with the Finns Party and the Swedish People’s Party.
The three right-wing parties together have a majority of 108 seats in the Finnish Parliament, which has a total of 200 seats, Politico writes. Petteri Orpo, the leader of the National Coalition Party, will lead the new cabinet as prime minister, Yle reports.
Agriculture
The Christian Democrats get 1.5 ministerial posts in the new coalition, the party announces on its website. Party leader Sari Essayah is set to become responsible for agriculture and forestry. The other post will be filled in two years; the Ministry of Sport will be headed by a minister from the Swedish People's Party of Finland for the first two years. After that, a Christian Democrat will take over.
In her speech at the release of the coalition agreement, Essayah pointed out that the new government will work on a child-friendly society. She promised that child benefits and home care support would remain in place and increase. In addition, families should gain more income tax reduction, she said.
