Denmark works on new Bible translation

In 2036, Denmark must have a new Bible translation . In that year, it is the country’s 500th anniversary of the Reformation. The work begins now.
“A new Bible translation must be for joy, faith, reflection, community – for us as a country and people,” says Peder Ø. Andreasen, chairman of the Bible Society’s board.
The latest authorised Bible translation is from 1992. That it is “authorised” means that it has been officially approved for use in the service of the Danish folk church.
However, since 1992, the Danish language has developed, states the Danish Bible Society.
Budget
The work on the new Bible runs over the next 13 years, and the goal is that the new translation of the Bible will be ready in 2036, the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. This will require a total budget of 38.5 million.
Since the first Danish translation in 1550, the Bible has had a decisive influence on how we see each other and the world, writes the Danish Bible Society.
“The Bible is relevant to anyone interested in our religious, linguistic and social heritage. It can shed light on history, reflect the present and provide pointers for the future. When you have such a large heritage in your luggage, you have a lot to draw on, both individually and as a community,” says Johannes Baun, secretary general of the Bible Society.
